Bloggers Feast at Tupelo Honey Cafe in Charlotte

Bloggers Feast provides social media reviews for restaurants, businesses and events.

Let me tell you...I am still full from Friday night! Yes...it is Tuesday morning. One night, I stopped by this restaurant called Tupelo Honey Cafe that opened in Charlotte in December of 2013. After visiting and thoroughly enjoying the food, I tweeted about it and was contacted by someone in their social media department.

I was invited back to review with Bloggers FeastTM, a collective of invited bloggers who review businesses, events, and restaurants. It is the brainchild of myself and a fellow blogger.

  1. Glad to hear it!! Will you be writing a post on it??
  2. I didn't really get to experience the restaurant BC I got takeout. If my blogger pals and I go back, I will do a post.
  3. Well consider this a personal invite to come and review us!
  4. maybe we could set up something and we could each do a review? Is there a way to contact you?
  5. Yes! Go ahead and shoot a quick email to info@tupelohoneycafe.com and I'll give you the Charlotte GMs info!

Look...I will tell you this...If this place were cruddy, I would tell you it was cruddy. A couple of fellow bloggers and I tried out this other restaurant here and it was horrible. We didn't do a review for it because we were just having a night out. But that restaurant's food was bland and honestly not worth mentioning.

With Tupelo Honey Cafe, I will definitely tell the world about it! Even before having the review request, I told my fellow bloggers they should try it out. Shoot, I told everyone they should try it out! Ha! I first became aware of Tupelo through my uncle's fiancee. She and my uncle had visited on a number of occasions for brunch.

Tupelo took care of all of the Bloggers Feast ladies and even gifted each of us the first edition of their cookbook. The gals from BlitzandGlam.com, HoneebeeGifts.com, NikkiPanache.com and photgrapHER GWillPhoto.com devoured the following:

Drinks:

Signature House-made Rosemary-Peach Lemonade
Sparkling Blueberry Punch (YBBG Fave!)
Tupelo-rita ("cockytail")
Blueberry Fields Forever ("cockytail")

Appetizers (YBBG Fave!)

Our Famous Pimento Cheese and House-made Tortilla Chips
Fried Green Tomatoes
Tupelo's Encore Cheesy Grit Cakes
Tupelo Wings

Entrees:
Not Your Mama's Meatloaf
Carolina Mountain Trout
Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes (YBBG Fave!)
Brian's Shrimp & Grits Shoo Mercy Version (YBBG Fave!)
Cajun Skillet Catfish (see pic at www.blitzandglam.com)

Down home, Traditional Banana Pudding (YBBG Fave!)
Brown Butter Pecan Pie with Butter Bean Ice Cream and Caramel Sauce
Blueberry Thrill Hill Cream Cheese Pie (YBBG Fave!)

Each of us ordered a different dish so we could pass plates and sample. I have had very few restaurant experiences where everyone enjoyed everything. The only things I would pass on were the pecan pie due to food allergies, and the catfish. Though the catfish was very fresh, I just don't like the taste. It was my first time trying catfish, and I usually only eat salmon and tuna when it comes to fish. I also had to pass on the trout because it had almond slivers.

I absolutely fell in love with the shrimp & grits and almost gave myself a heart attack trying to get every last morsel of the banana pudding. Lordy! That banana pudding was so good, I had to call the banana pudding making queen herself, my mama, to tell her about it.

Let me not let the sides slide by without a mention. I LOVE fried okra! When I would come home from college in the summer...my mama would make my favorite meal: Fried Okra, Corn, sliced tomatoes, home-made bread...no meat necessary! Tupelo does okra right! It isn't heavily breaded...it is fried to perfection and has a little kick with this dipping sauce that they should bottle up and sale!

I am also a grits loving G.R.I.T.S. (girl raised in the south)...and Tupelo gives you grits in several ways and I loved them all!

A few of the ladies loved the food so much that they placed to-go orders! Yes...it was that great! One of the ladies ordered from the gluten-free menu for her boyfriend who has a gluten allergy.

I am so thoroughly impressed by this place that I plan to take a few people there to try it out. I am telling you I loved the people, (Hey!!! to our waitress, Dawn!), the decor, the atmosphere and especially the food!

Other Charlotte restaurants serving Southern fare better be a little nervous because Tupelo Honey Cafe is the best I've had here and will most definitely be my go to spot!
