WARNING: Stop texting

Technology is making stupidity popular! Yes! Just stop it! No more texting! I'm not talking about texting while driving...oh no (yeah, you should probably stop that as well)! But texting period is becoming a problem. Technology is trying to turn me back into a telephone talker and away from being a telephone texter. Oh no!! Some time ago, I told you all I hate talking on the phone. I would rather shoot a text and let the conversation be as brief as possible. Now? Oh but now. After witnessing a few mishaps and seeing the advances of technology, I realize texting is not the way to go. All these Android and iPhones can capture every text you send, and they do not go away. There was a time back in the way back when texts would disappear out into techno-space, never to be retrieved again. Not now! With a quick pressing of a couple of buttons, your text messages become images. Those images can be transferred any and everywhere. I have seen people post funny messages online,

Cam Newton, don't call me sweetheart

I heard this discussion this morning on Power 98 FM's No Limit Larry and the Morning Maddhouse. Apparently there is a woman reporter who became offended when Cam Newton referred to her as "sweetheart". Sports writer Jemele Hill penned an article about "sweetheart"-gate where she writes : "I'm going to leave this room and I'm going to bring in a suggestion box and I want your suggestions to be in that suggestion box because I sure don't know,"  Newton said to reporters  on Sunday. "I really don't. I wish I could tell you. But the only thing I control, sweetheart, is myself. Offensively, I am the leader of this bunch and we haven't been getting the job done." [+] Enlarge AP Photo/Margaret Bowles Cam Newton is open to suggestions. OK, Cam, here's the first suggestion. How about not referring to a female reporter as "sweetheart"? It's antiquated. It's insulting. It's condescendi

Study of 176 coeds concludes men and women can't be platonic friends

From WXERfm blog So after my discussion with a fellow blogger about male-female friendships, another person introduced us to this "scientific study" that says men and women cannot be friends. That's right! Platonic relationships do not and cannot exist between men and women. In order to investigate the viability of truly platonic opposite-sex friendships—a topic that has been explored more on the silver screen than in the science lab—researchers brought 88 pairs of undergraduate opposite-sex friends into…a science lab.   Privacy was paramount—for example, imagine the fallout if two friends learned that one—and only one—had unspoken romantic feelings for the other throughout their relationship.  In order to ensure honest responses, the researchers not only followed standard protocols regarding anonymity and confidentiality, but also required both friends to agree—verbally, and in front of each other—to refrain from discussing the study, even after they had left the

How to make friends with guys who don't want to sleep with you

Photo from: Instablog I told a fellow blogger that I would do this blog about how to make friends with guys who do not want to sleep with you.  Let me give you some background. You know, this blog was initially started as an homage to my friendships with guys. Being friends with the male gender has always been a natural part of my life. It is as natural to me as having female friends. It has just always been so. I never really considered any negative implications of having male friends, until I met people who had a huge issue with it. One person was a guy I dated some years ago. He could not deal with my having "homeboys". It confused the heck out of me. I did not get it at all. I remember trying to set up a double date with one of my dearest friends, his girlfriend, myself and the guy I was dating. Let me tell you, it did not go down. My guy had no desire to meet my homeboy, who was flying in from out of town with his lady. I was so hurt that he wanted me to choos

What kind of friend are you?

I thought about this performance with Whitney Houston and CeCe Winans tonight. For some reason it ran across my mind. Of course we know Whitney has passed on, but she was such good friends with the Winans family during her journey here on earth. I wonder how they dealt with her issues with drugs and her embattled life. That led to me thinking about friendships on the whole. The other day I saw someone I know post on FB about a friend betraying her. The betrayal threatened their friendship that was over a decade long. A number of people said the poster handled things wrong and should have confronted the friend privately. The poster responded with a message of hurt and disappointment. Friendship is a deep thing. You do not expect friends to ever hurt you. But in turn they expect the same level of support and devotion from you. How much could someone's problems weigh on a friendship? Are you a good friend if you cannot handle the issues and step away? What kind of friend are y

12 things you didn't know about cheating men

Photo from AlmightyDad.com Okay...there's this blog called Single Black Male.org . Over there they have this post about men cheating...  The post is derived from an article that originated at WomansDay.com. Here are the surprising "facts" Fact #1: Most men are still in love with their wives when they cheat. Fact #2: Men usually cheat with women they know. Fact #3: Men cheat to save their marriages. “Men love their spouses, but they don’t know how to fix their relationship problems, so they go outside their marriages to fill any holes,” says licensed marriage and family therapist Susan Mandel, PhD. Men want it all and have the skewed notion that another woman will make the longing for something more disappear. Then, they can live happily ever after with their wife—and their mistress—without confronting the real issues. Fact #4: Men hate themselves after affairs. Fact #5: Cheaters often get friskier with their wives when affairs begin. Fact #6: Wom
