A genuine sports fan, is what I am. I even listen to sports radio everyday except on weekends. Living in Charlotte, I have the unique blessing of having both a professional football and basketball team in my city. Yes, I have witnessed both struggle throughout the years...

Today, I was able to get a bird's eye view of Carolina Panthers' QB Cameron Newton interacting with fans and signing autographs at Belk Southpark. I took my new blog photographer, GWill with me, and had to explain that I do not like being in photos at the events I attend. One of my fellow bloggers backed that up.
You know I was there by the stories I tell. You don't need to see me in every shot.

Quite frankly, I do not care much about meeting "famous" people. They are still people. But I do understand what meeting someone dear to you, whom you have little access to, can feel like to a fan. So for this post, I want to let you in on how fans interacted with Cam Newton.  Newton promoted his MADE clothing line today, which one YBBG reader really likes.

Newton is treated harshly in the press at times. Even by local sports writers and on air personalities. It irritates me to no end. Why? Because I have yet to witness anything from him that would draw such ire. However, I can say emphatically: FANS LOVE CAMERON NEWTON.

Older ladies of all ethnic backgrounds came up to me today gushing over Newton's good looks.  One little lady nudged me and said, "My he is handsome ain't he?" I smiled politely and said, "Yes ma'am."

As my photographer, G Will,  and I stood by the autograph table, some fans approached. A suited up police officer nearby told them they had to move. One gentleman said, "But what about them?" The officer replied, "They're with Cam."

The officer was nice, and actually photobombed me on one pic I did take. It was hilarious. If you go to my Instagram you can see it.

Access and achievement are what make ordinary people famous. But you can watch a person to see how that impacts him. I watched as Newton made faces with one young fan. Held and kissed babies. Posed with another fan and generally charmed everyone in the crowed.
