Dean is such an amazing person and he is currently dealing with a cognitive disorder that has clouded his memory. Dean has accomplished many things on the court, but what he has done off the court is what makes him beloved by many...even rivals.
Although our schools are rivals, it is more like a sibling rivalry. We do not really hate each other as much as fans would make it seem. One of my dearest friends was a football player at NC State when I was a student at UNC. I talk to him every single day.
Today we have a basketball game to play, and trust me there will be a lot of trash talk between us. But after today, we will go back to our usual banter about life. That's the key to sports and competition. It is very personal when on the court or in the field of play, but once you walk off the court and into life, it is just another day.
