President Obama, the baby whisperer

President Obama has a way with kids.

Have you ever met people, who just have a way with children?  They make children feel completely at ease, and happy? President Obama seems to be one of those people. Look at the little kid in the picture, that is a for real smile. One of those from the heart and belly smiles, is spread through that precious little boy's face and eyes.  Children know when people actually care deep down. It's like they have a sixth sense.

There's a look on President Obama's face, that I know well.  It shows the feeling that is running through him at the point the picture is taken.  It is a feeling I have had before when around children.  You want to protect them, see them do well, imagine them always smiling.  It is felt deep down. No matter who the child is or what the child looks like.

A while ago, I started using the term "baby whisperer" LOL.  It stemmed from some experiences I've had while out and about running errands and the like.  I was shopping one day and a little baby in the cart ahead of me was crying her eyeballs out. Her mother (or grandmother, not sure which) was imploring her, in Spanish, to stop...then got downright belligerent with the poor baby.

So I looked at the baby and smiled, and she stopped crying, looked at me, smiled and started reaching for me.  Of course I couldn't pick her up...but the lady with her said, "I don't know what you did, but thanks."

I was in the waiting room of a doctor's office one day.  A little boy, probably a tad over one year old, waddled over to me and rested his head on my knee, grabbing onto my leg. His parents just looked at me puzzled.  And I laughed.  I told them, as strange as it may seem, it happens often.

I laugh with my sister about it all the time.  No matter where I am or who the child is, they come over and connect with me.  My uncle is the same way with children.  My niece met him, her great uncle, for the first time recently.  My sister said she went right to him and then wanted to stay, waving "bye-bye" to her and her husband.

My mom said my uncle has always been like that. He was the one person who could always get babies to calm down and stop crying, the one who kids always found a way to smile around.  I know this personally because, when I was a youngin he was my go to guy! LOL.  So I guess he was the original baby whisperer...and maybe he passed it along to me? LOL

I absolutely love children...which is why I go hard about causes to protect them, promote their well-being, and secure their futures.  The most precious beings on earth are the little ones. Remember that as you navigate through life.

Do you know any baby whisperers? Are you one? What do you think it is that causes kids to gravitate toward certain people and feel secure around them?
