Charlotte Observer should choke on a football

So the Charlotte Observer ran the below picture of Cam Newton with a Hello Kitty t-shirt on.

Growing up in this area as a kid, I know how the media treats a team and its players. I have never seen a player held up to such ridicule as Cam Newton.

Before he got here, as a number one draft pick he was dragged by Frank Garcia and others on sports talk radio station WFNZ. Then when he came out and smashed several rookie QB records they all started back peddling.

The Observer cartoon is ruinous and ridiculous to me. He is three games into his second season with a jacked up offensive line and a still weak defensive line and he's 1-2.

I'm listening to The Drive with Taylor Z and Marc James and one of the guys stays on his back saying he is 7-12 for his career. Really?! Most of the losses the team had were because of the weak secondary and piss poor defensive schemes.

Not to mention the crazy draft picks the team made this year. Absolutely nuts.

How do you have a talented superstar on your squad and work every day to discredit him?

Do you really think that will endear him to the city? Doubtful...

Right now, I don't think people are on him about the losses. It's the sulking and pouting and overall moodiness. He needs to stop taking it all to heart and keep his mind in the game, particularly when they are losing. I'm not a Panthers fan, but I'm glad that Smitty got on him about it. If I saw my QB acting like that when we're losing while I'm still cheering my team on, I would be PISSED. He's a very good quarterback and he will get better, but he's got to keep his head in the game and be the leader he's expected to be.

I definitely don't think the fans are on him on whole. I listen to sports talk radio, so that is from where most of the angst of this post comes.

Sometimes listening to WFNZ is like experiencing bi-polar disorder or something. One week he's the best thing since sliced bread, the next he's a complete and utter failure.

The negativity from the radio personalities actually began when he was drafted. Although I do feel he should take on the lead role/field general, some of the knocks he receives are unwarranted.

But alas, it comes with the territory. Heck, I lived through Jake Delhomme and instead of ridicule that dude got Bojangles commercials. SMH
