Radio, social media and blogging

I stopped by Power 98 in Charlotte on Thursday to say hi since I've been so tied up with practicing law during the day. The host, Larry, and I had our usual back and forth clowning session, then I caught up with the co-hosts, Yasmin and Church, and producer ADot. It has been a while since I've been there. As fate would have it I ran into one of my Twitter followers and her son, who has been making headlines locally.

That's Milton Dunlap and his mom, Kim Richardson. Kim has been following me almost since the beginning of my time on social media. I try to interact with folks as much as possible, so yes I keep tabs.

Kim and Milton have been through quite an ordeal. Milton was wrongly accused of being a criminal and breaking into homes. A state trooper went so far as to say Milton was driving the getaway car! Yes, he swore up and down that the kid was driving the get away car. But Milton was at home minding his business playing the new Grand Theft Auto (yes...I catch the irony) and posting on Instagram.

He was also texting his mama about all the police in his neighborhood that afternoon. He's free now and all charges have been dropped. You can read all about the story on Examiner.com

The power of social media! I tell ya.

Anyway, I love the power of radio as well. It is not only entertainment but resourceful as well. Larry's cousin is a civil rights advocate here and helped the family.

After I left Power 98, I appeared on WGIV 103.3 to talk about Family Law, but ended up asking the host if Kim and her son could call into the show.

For good measure, I also called into our local sports station to answer a question about Cam Newton deciding to go back to school to get his degree during the off season. The host of Bustin' Loose on WFNZ insisted that Cam should not have chosen to go back to school, but to stay focused on becoming an elite quarterback.

I disagreed. Going back to school is a positive move and a good look for someone who is a role model to kids. And trust me when I say...that guy loves kids! You can see it in his eyes.

  1. I know you made a very convincing argument

  2. Thanks! lol “: I know you made a very convincing argument”

Anyway, I'll go back to WGIV soon to talk law and all that good stuff.

Have you ever wanted to know what goes on behind the scenes of radio stations? Let me tell you a lot of work goes in, but there is definitely a lot of fun too. Although a lot of the back and forth banter is unscripted...there are rules and a structure to what is done. You really have to have good timing with what you say and do.

But I know most of them would not change what they do for anything in the world. And I enjoy being able to drop in from time to time.

I would like to do it in a more fun capacity honestly...But I don't mind the serious legal side of talking either.
