Bikini Basketball and Lingerie Football, is this what Title IX brought us?

Bikini Basketball and Lingerie Football leagues
are the most recent additions to women's sports.

I write for an online news site. When submitting an article on Domestic Violence Awareness and Breast Cancer Awareness Month, today, I glanced at an article entitled "Bikini Basketball is on its way".

I paused. Thought I read it incorrectly, but clicked on the link to make sure. Yep! There it was... an article all about scantily clad women playing hoops. Wait a minute!!! Is this what Title IX was supposed to be about? Nekkid heiffas women running around popping Js? I don't think so!

Mind you, I played basketball as a little girl on up to high school when I quit after blowing out my knee in camp. I am a sports junky. Heck...I listen to sports radio to get me through my work each day.

Just a short time ago, I wrote about the anniversary of Title IX, the legislation that gave girls and young women equal access to sports at schools and universities. That being said...I was a tad bit put off pissed by this bikini basketball business. It makes as little sense as women playing football in lingerie.

Then I had to pause and ask myself, "why am I upset?" Well...I'm upset partly because women in the US who play for the WNBA barely get the type of support they should. Now, when these women play over seas they are superstars, but here...as a woman athlete? You have to get naked to get even a bit of attention.

I'm not really mad that the women are playing in bikinis (yes I am...) I'm more bothered by the image it sends. Granted the women in the Lingerie Football League get after it, and go hard, according to my homeboy, Noa (I've never seen it.), and are very talented and athletic. I still have a problem with them being half nekkid.

But Noa made a good point. He said that I objectify male athletes all the time. (Okay...shoot me...I do...They make 'em like I like 'em.) Plus should women not do whatever they want to do, even if it means being half nekkid posting up and such on a basketball court?

I guess so... That being said, I can't be too mad. I'm not watching this foolishness...but I cannot be mad.

I know most of my male readers are excited for the Bikini Basketball Association to start league play. They are set to kick off in November.

Do you think I am being too overboard to feel some kinda way about this foolishness?
