Christianity is not a political party

I listened to a conservative talk show on my way up the road yesterday. I think it was on 1110 AM, WBT radio or something. I try not to quickly label people. (Though, sometimes I do...I realize that, and try to atone for it.)

So an older woman called in saying that if President Obama gets reelected, God would render His judgment on the US for gay marriage and abortions. I found that interesting. Just those two things would bring about judgment on the US?

Hmmm... In a country where rapes of human beings were sanctioned, lynchings were held as after church socials, wars with weaker countries were championed, greed consumes any inkling of charity, and poor people go without basic necessities...God is going to judge this country for choices individual people make?

So yes, I called in and made those statements. Making a further point that as people claim Christianity, we are chastened to pray for all those in authority. (And yes it was hard for me to pray for George Bush, but dangit sometimes I did it anyway LMBO). Sometimes people live in a vacuum. They never hear another p.o.v. and it is not okay. I can say the host of the show was excellent. He gave historical perspective to my comment. That at the time the scripture about praying for those in authority was penned, Nero was in charge and he was burning Christians alive.

Christianity is not a political party. But people sure do try to make it one. They somehow find a way to say that being Christian=being conservative=Republican. I'm a Christian moderate Independent. And I know Christian Liberal Dems. At what point will people honestly open their eyes to there being more to being a Christian than abortion and homosexuality?

Christianity is about your daily walk, not your concerning yourself with the daily walk of other folks. You love people and better your relationship with God. That through your living and walking and talking and doing that those who may not have that relationship will find their way to it.

Maybe I'm wrong about it. Maybe I'm supposed to brow beat people into submission. I don't think that's what I'm supposed to do. I'm not the best Christian, if there can be such a test as who is a better religious believer, but I know what I believe. There are a lot of sins I believe people are guilty of committing, but their condemnation is left at the foot of the throne. If you ask me my stance on something, I have no problem telling you. You can be offended...but hey you choose to ask, I choose to tell you the truth.

Although we should be guided by our beliefs in our decision-making processes, I just do not believe religion and politics should mix. Yes vote with your spiritual beliefs in mind, but do not try to make secular political decisions some type of religious litmus test. We do not live in a theocracy.
