Chris "MAC Daddy" Kelly, dead at 34

"Chris Kelly of Kriss Kross died," stated the text from my sister. It feels like someone has just punched me in the gut. I hoped that it was some internet rumor. Then I saw the news reports. I had just posted to Facebook that "we often get reminders that life is fleeting...so why be angry or stay angry?"

How do you breathe after such news? Oddly, it was like hearing that a family member had passed and I did not even know him. Not personally. But he was part of my life...my adolescence.

I had this Cross Colours outfit that I wore backwards. I begged and pleaded to get that outfit. I think I was in middle school when Kriss Kross hit. And I loved them both.

It just happened. I'm still feeling an overwhelming sense of sorrow. I pray God be with his family and loved ones. From AJC:

The cause of death was not immediately known. An autopsy is planned for Thursday morning.

An Atlanta native, Kelly and the other half of the duo, Chris Smith, were discovered at Greenbriar Mall in 1990 by now-famous entertainer and producer Jermaine Dupri. “Kris Kross” was one of the first acts Dupri signed to his So So Def Records label, and in February, the duo was among many to perform at an anniversary show at the Fox.
