What about your friends?

The cast from now canceled sitcom Girlfriends

You know a key difference between men and women? Men do not have "frienemies".  They either like you or they don't.  That's the way I handle my friendships too.  I choose to not compete with other women, I compete with myself.  Sometimes I may be challenged by other women or feel a twinge of jealousy, then I remind myself, What God has for me is for me, and for her is for her.  Simple.

So, I don't get the concept of frienemies or going after your friend's man.  Last week I was a guest on Power 98 FM again for Battle of the Sexes.  I decided to stay around for Situations, which is a segment every Thursday around 8:30.

The writer of the letter for Situations, was a young lady whose best friend since the age of 11 was married with children.  Her godchildren.  Well she and the wife were so close, they'd roomed together in college and afterwards.  She found her bff's husband to be attractive since meeting him.  One night the wife was away, but had left some items at her house, so the husband comes to get them.  The lady offers the husband a drink,t hen another, then another, then another...so you know what happened.  She banged her bff's husband.

WTF?! And now this heiffa wants to know what should she do?  Why do people always wait until after they mess up to ask for advice?! YOU ALREADY MESSED UP!!!

Come on ladies. We are not that dumb or accident prone.  Clearly the heiffa set this up.  But my question is, how do you do that to your friend? Your BEST FRIEND?  I'll tell ya how... Some heiffas cannot be trusted. And people confuse friendship with acquaintance relationships. Then again some folks are just trifling.

People tell you who they are if you pay attention.  There are rules and regulations to friendships.

    TLC-WHAT ABOUT YOUR FRIENDS
  • If you ever feel like you have to talk about a chick behind her back, y'all ain't friends.  Be woman enough to say what you have to say to her face and deal with it.
  • If you ever feel like a chick is your competition, y'all ain't friends.  Friends support each other, they don't go to war on the sly.
  • If you ever feel the need to have your girl's man, y'all ain't friends.  With all the men around here passing out their goods like cheese in a government line, why would you even WANT your girl's man? That's just nasty!
  • If you do dirt with a chick and then want to clean up your life, GET RID OF HER!!! Seriously...some people still live dirty...you don't want that in your new life. Ain't nothing wrong with cutting ties. Bump all this, "we've been friends since childhood" crap.  Some stuff you leave in the past, like pigtails and velcro strapped shoes... Let it go...
  • If you feel nervous with your man around your friends...you might be insecure...or you know that heiffa ain't no good.  So ummm yeah...dead that.
  • Never leave your man in the graces of another woman. That's just a wise rule to have.  PERIOD.  It's a respect thing.  Your dude has no business going over to fix Milly's sink...tell her to call a plumber.  Or picking Jody's son up from daycare.  Sometimes you invite trouble... Just establish some house rules and there won't be any confusion.

If you can't trust 'em, don't befriend 'em.  Keep them at a nice cool level and that's it.  All that extra stuff is for the birds.  Keep it simple... If you don't like the heiffa, you don't like her. If you like her, but can't trust her, just be "cool".  If you like her and trust her, make sure she feels the same about you.  When you have a real friend, don't mess it up! Treat that relationship like a precious baby. Protect it and don't jack it up.  Good friends are hard to come by.
