Bobbi Brown Pretty Powerful Face contest

Cosmetics maven, Bobbi Brown has a contest called Pretty Powerful Faces that I entered the other day.  In the contest, you're asked to give one word to describe you and the explain why.  (I ask that you will do me the greatest favor of voting for me daily here: http://t.co/6ccfNvA)

My word is Enigmatic.  (If you cannot tell by now, I love words...lol.  I'm rather verbose.  I remember in high school, I used to make up words in English class, my teacher got a kick out of it.)

I chose Enigmatic which means hard to define, mysterious.  The reason I chose this particular word is that I find power in not being defined.  Defying description is the main thing.  There are so many parts to my personality (and those of others), that I refuse to be placed in a box.

Typically people attempt to label others so they can make judgment calls.  There is nothing wrong with that.  But I prefer communicating and getting to know the person, not the labels.

If you read my labels they would say: Poor girl who grew with her family out of poverty into becoming an attorney, who loves God, but isn't caught up in people's religious preferences, who was a tomboy that is competitive and mouthy, who likes clothes and has tons of associates, but few FRIENDS, who is into politics, who is conservative, with liberal thoughts, but independent, who writes, who speaks, who talks trash, who debates, who loves food, who sometimes loves working out, but is sometimes lazy, who cares deeply for other people, who volunteers, who is standoffish, who is the life of the party, who takes charge, who likes to fall back, who gives a lot of her time to others problems, who keeps to herself, who has natural hair, but doesn't have a problem with perms, who laughs a lot, but you may not catch smiling, who loves her family, but can take time away, who used to fight, who keeps the peace, who is driven, who is laid back.

There is power in not being defined by others. Power in not allowing others to label you or put you in a box. Power in using EVERY label God has given you through life to help people defy the labels others try to place on them. I feel everyone should define themselves, then open themselves up to being understood by others, based on WHO they are at the core, not on a box they fit in. The thing about labels is, people go from judgment to assumptions.  From identifying to discriminating.

My point...become enigmatic.  Do not allow others to define you.  Keep them guessing, and do amazing things that are not controlled by your labels.

The contest is ongoing and again I ask that you will do me the greatest favor of voting for me daily here: http://t.co/6ccfNvA.
