Olympic bodies

From DiaryOfAFashionista.com

Have you ever noticed that different sports require different body shapes? I thought of this when I watched the Olympics. For example, a swimmer's body is completely different than a sprinter's body.

A sprinter even has a different body than a distance runner. It all comes down to the nature of the sport. Sprinters tend to have bigger thighs for running short distances. I always felt like swimmers were shaped similarly to fish: wide shoulders and slight hips. A body made to swim has be shaped that way for maximum performance.

BOXER'S BODY
Laila Ali
(Ali is not in the Olympics)
SWIMMER'S BODY

Ryan Lochte
(Lochte does not have the typical swimmer's
body...his middle is rather wide.)

Cullen Jones
(Jones has the quintessential swimmer's body)

SPRINTER BODY
James Ellington
(okay...I had a US sprinter, but umm...
this Brit looked better)

BASKETBALL PLAYER'S BODY

Candace Parker

GYMNAST'S BODY

VOLLEYBALL PLAYERS' BODIES

USA Volleyball team

Different body types work better in different sports. Short squatty bodies don't work too well in sports like volleyball, unless you're at one of the few positions that require being low to the earth...like digging and setting might.

If you're long and lanky, you may want to try a sport that doesn't require big muscles.
