"Where's the money?" panelists
Black Enterprise hosted the 20/20 Vision Minority Women in Business forum at the Hilton Center City, Charlotte on Wednesday. Walmart, one of the leading corporations utilizing diverse suppliers, sponsored the program. The invite-only event boasted women in every aspect of business from start-up to financing to major corporation.

Attendees covered the forum on Twitter though the hashtag #besuppdiv, allowing those unable to attend a glimpse at the tremendous information received.

Speakers included Sylvia Brewer, Dawn Fitch of Pookalita, Lisa Price of Carol's Daughter and author of Success Never Smelled So Sweet, Valerie Daniels-Carter of V&J Holdings, Brenda Anderson of The Galilee Agency Group, Audra Bohanna, Kesha Cash, Dr. Twyla Garrett, and Marissa Lee. 

Ms. Cash, Dr. Garrett, and Ms. Lee tackled a huge issue that many upstarts face: financing. Where do you get the money to finance your dream? Topics from angel investors to SBA financing and sustainable community grants were covered. A person may have the most innovative idea in the world, but if it does not reach the masses, what good is it? Many local chambers offer financial literacy courses, and should be utilized to understand how to get the money, where best to apply the money you receive, and how to turn funding into profit. 

Ms. Daniels-Carter's book


Ms. Daniels-Carter brought an element of "church" to the first panel. She spoke of uncompromising faith in building her business.  Ms. Daniels-Carter's spirit filled the room, and encouraged each attendee in the most uplifting way.  Ms. Daniels-Carter's book "Your Business is His Business," delivers a message of faith and hard work. By never compromising on her faith, the blessings she received in business yielded her much success. 

Ms. Anderson echoed those spiritual sentiments, noting that her company is called The Galilee Agency Group for a reason. Ms. Anderson's book, From Zero to Faith, marries business with Biblical context. Within the book, there are ten business lessons that you must learn:

Black Enterprise formulated a fantastic program that captured the essence of what it takes to go from idea to business to success. Every woman, and the few gentlemen who sneaked in, left feeling motivated and empowered.
