Caught on camera CIAA 2013

First and foremost, CIAA is a basketball conference. The event from the
end of February to he first of March is a basketball tournament.

CIAA is actually a basketball conference comprising of historically Black colleges and universities. The tournament week started February 26th in Charlotte this year, and culminated in a weekend flurry of activities. The tournament has been held in various cities in the southeast including Richmond, Winston-Salem, and Raleigh.

Sadly the basketball aspect of CIAA has been lost on people who think CIAA is just a time to party. I wonder how many of the celebrities who showed up to host parties and perform actually attended the games. I know the guy 2 Chainz actually played college basketball.

This is one of the livest weekends in Charlotte. Every music artist, promoter and hustler in the southeast is here trying to make a buck. The event brings multimillionaires and multi-millions to the city each year. Someone claimed that they hate when CIAA comes to town because "Black people don't tip." I hate that meme, and trust me, there are restaurant, bar and club workers who will tell you differently.

I am guilty of snapping shots here and there when I see something crazy in public places. Still I hope to never become fodder for social media follies, like the expectant mother I saw in a pic floating around Twitter. For all I know she was just going to a basketball game. After all that's what the week long event is about. But if someone snaps a pic of you and it goes on Twitter or Facebook, they create the story line to go along with it.
