Who taught you 'the game'?

Never in my young life did a grown man ever tell me, “Be honest with women!” Unfortunately, most men are taught how to win at the game instead of not playing at all. Women also have games to use what they have to get what they want. Did you have to learn the hard way that being honest is about keeping your life less dramatic? At what age did you finally grow up and what incident caused you to snap you out of the foolishness?--Michael Baisden

Who gave you "the game"? Was it one of your parents? A friend? An uncle or an aunt? Maybe a cousin?
How do you know when to stop playing? I saw this posted on Michael Baisden's Facebook page, and it reminded me of many conversations I've had since I started blogging.

Many people find themselves lost in the game, and do not know how to come out of it. There has to be a stopping point for the game playing if what you desire is peace and stability. Playing games leads to a whole lot of insecurity and mistrust. At some point a man and woman are supposed to grow up and put away childish things. Dating is hard enough without the games...so how do you get past them?

Once you've done something for so long, however, it is difficult to put away those tactics, because they have now become habits. To break a habit, you have to create new ones.

  1. Do some internal evaluation. Everyone should do mental, physical and emotional checkups annually.
  2. Unlearn some of your poor behaviors. Just because a grownup gave you the game, doesn't mean it was proper to carry it on your whole life.
  3. Step in the opposite direction of what you've been doing. Small steps.
  4. Get some spirituality in your life.
  5. Think about someone other than yourself. Consider his/her wants and needs as much as your own.
Now that's just a start. I'm not trying to tell you what to do with your life...but if you're trying to give up the game, you have to do something...right?
