Terrell Owens: When fame is not enough

Terrell Owens was one of my celebrity crushes...until I watched his reality show.  No, I was not put off by his choice in women, nor his continuous ignorance toward Kita.  It was his disregard for one of his children that got to me.

By watching his show, I learned that his father had ignored him, although he lived very close by.  Apparently TO was the product of an affair.

What does that do to a kid? I mean, you have no say in how you get here, but you suffer all of the consequences of what took place.

Clearly he was tormented.  Couple that with growing up in the South where "Black" was not always beautiful....he talked on the show about how he was ridiculed because of his dark skin growing up.

I don't care how much you are supposed to get over stuff like that, the wounds stay with you.  Well it is more like the INFECTION stays with you, until you work to heal it.

Seeing TO struggle right now shows me that he probably hasn't found a cure for that infection.  It is evident in how he deals with people.  He trusted his homeboys to have access to his accounts...they robbed him.  He berates Kita who waits on him hand and foot.  He goes hot and cold with the women he dates.

Often guys who brandish a lot of COCKINESS are not very CONFIDENT.  You put the Cocky image out there for two purposes: 1. To prevent people from getting close to you.  2. To act out how you want to be, but aren't really made to be.

I thought it was an old clip, I saw on my homepage today when I read: TO hospitalized for possible prescription drug overdose.  The initial report came from TMZ (how do they know everybody's business???).

Sadly, it was not an old clip.  This is the second time something like this has occurred.  The last time was when his engagement ended a few years back.

He was just interviewed by Stephen A. Smith about a return to the NFL after knee surgery, and seemed in good spirits:

He really needs to go to therapy and STAY in therapy for a while. This is so sad to watch him go through all of this.

He needs more people around him, who care about HIM and not what he does for THEM. And he also has to acknowledge his own issues, ya know?

Im a big TO fan. but i also see this dude for his struggles. He is one of those Kids that escaped his pain thru SPORTS.. I coach youth football an i see it everyday. AN it just so happens that he was able to excel so far in sports so much of reality he didnt have to face. This injury an financial hardships is making him face reality. They always say you can never forget your past. Well he tried an now its looking him in the face. This is a very common issue for SUPERSTAR athletes. Most of them dont know when to leave the game. But hopefully this down time will give TO a chance to seek counseling an also begin to learn to accept his past. an understand that he needs to put as much in being a better man as he has into the game of football.

Definitely something people never address @Iamreallyblunt.

There are a multitude of kids who grow into superstars with emotional problems. But all people focus on is their output in the game.
