UNC VS DUKE--More than a rivalry

UNC VS DUKE--MORE THAN A RIVALRY

I won't be able to focus today. I have to go to work, but my mind will be on tonight's game. If you don't know...tonight is game one of UNC vs Dook for this season. It goes down at 9 p.m.

Since I was a little girl, I have watched these games. So I guess my love dates back to my earliest memories somewhere around age 3. Some people don't get it. THIS IS THE GAME!! Bump the World Series...Forget the Super Bowl!

If you have any love for sports...most people know that this is THE biggest rivalry in sports. I know...some of you want to say Yankees vs Red Sox or Army vs Navy... Not so!

For at least two nights in a year, people who love each other. Live together. Sup at the same table. Will hate each other and spew the most vile insults known to man in each other's direction. There is no game that turns brother against brother. Friend against friend. Uncle against nephew...or in my house growing up, father against daughter...

Oh yeah. My dad is a dook fan. And honestly for a while growing up, dook was my #2 team. (It may have had something to do with my crush on Grant Hill...I will never forgive Tamia for stealing my man! He was mine...Yammit!!!) That is until we (UNC) played them. At that point during each season, all loyalty toward the devil was thrown out the window and I went hard for Blue Heaven.

The trash talk starts about a week ahead of the game. Oh yes, we go in. My dad has called me in the middle of the night to wake me up to talk trash. I have called him when I knew he was at work to talk trash.

My ex love is a dook fan (Lord not the one who is probably reading this...ummm I hope he ignores this and keeps it moving LMBO....). We have had serious battles over these games during college and afterwards.
One of my coworkers between college and law school, when I worked as a technical writer, was a dook fan (hey Rollo!!!), and we used to go to war!!! I worked at an engineering plant with a lot of ACC alumni. It would get ugly. We'd play practical jokes. I created masterful posters of UNC taping them to car windows and office doors.

If anyone has ever met me, they know I GO IN!!!! I mean I GO IN. I played sports since I was a kid, I grew up around uncles playing the dozens...so trust me...You don't want it with me. I talk trash so bad my opponent will be ready to go to jail! LOL

I get so excited watching these games that I tend to overexert myself. I have literally screamed 'til I lost my voice. Cried myself to bloodshot eyes. And hyperventilated. No really...as crazy as it sounds. That's how serious it is! This game is EPIC!!

You must understand, UNC is my alma mater. I was offered scholarships to Dook, and my dad wanted me to go, I refused to even send in an application. By the time I headed to college any affinity I had toward dook was gone. Like it never happened. To even tell you it ever existed makes me ill.

Everything within me loves Carolina. From our patented color Carolina Blue, to the trees that lined the walkways to class, to the amazing friends I made, to Lenoir and Chase and Hanes Pavilion, to the Carolina Theater, to Kenan Stadium, to the brick monsters, to the teenage mutant ninja squirrels, to Fall Fest, to Greek Freak, to BOLO, to No School, to the U Bus, to Cats Cradle to the Dean Dome, to the UL to Davis to the Great Hall, to Robert (Robert was the bus driver...not the aforementioned boo lol) and everything in between!!!

On Monday night the Lady Heels already got it done, beating Dook 62-60.  So you know I'm super dope amped right now!

Let me just give the people I watch the game with tonight fair warning....Have your bail money ready!

You know, usually tailgating parties are only for football, but I tell you, when we play Duke, I get my tailgating canopy out and start cooking up some hamburgers! You know why? It is going to be a blood, sweat, and tears game that I am not going to miss.
Duke vs NC is always a good game and looked forward too. That week the sports fan shop do well in selling college banners and sports throw blankets. Team fan shop in both states enjoy the game. http://stfos.com
