Temptation is a ...

There's a passage in the Bible, Genesis Chapter 39, where Jospeh flees the grips of Pontiphar's wife. She grabs his loincloth and then the heiffa has the audacity to say that Joseph tried to lie with her. The wife told Pontiphar this lie and it landed Joseph in prison.

However, it was in prison that Joseph was shown God's favor, and he was set up to be a greater man after being a slave. The message from this passage, to me anyway, is that there are blessings in fleeing temptation.

Which brings me to this Tyler Perry movie, Temptation. Temptations are a *fill in the blank*... In the trailer for this movie, you can see the struggle that the wife has with the pressures of her job, coupled with the nagging small issues in her marriage.

Then in he walks...tall, chocolate and bald. TEMPTATION. He's moving all the right ways, saying all the right hings. TEMPTATION. What your man isn't doing, he will. TEMPTATION. You're spending more  time with him, while your honey has no time for you. TEMPTATION. The small things your honey forgets, he remembers. TEMPTATION.

Or men, it could be she. I saw this old "letter from a mistress" pop back up today. It reads in part:

Allow me to introduce myself. I am that new twinkle in your man’s eye. The reason for the extra pep in his step. Doesn’t Daddy look extra handsome these days? It’s not only the designer suits that I buy for him, it’s  also the confidence that is restored in him, because unlike you, I remind him on a regular basis that he is “the man.”

I’ll give credit where it’s due. You weren’t always the selfish bitch you turned into. You really got him through some tough times. When he had no money, you supported him. (How could he forget, when you bring it up every chance you get?) Back in high school, when he wasn’t the cool guy on campus, you showed love. But much like your waistline from when he first met you…things have changed.

Before you get your granny panties in a bunch, don’t fret. You have a good man. He did not set out to hurt or betray you, things just kind of happened. To my chagrin, he loves you very much, and has this displaced loyalty I only partly understand. But despite the love, here I am. Comfortably nestled in his daily thoughts.

Could you end up in a position where a third party is dangerously close to ruining your bond? Sure you can. It's called TEMPTATION. It lurks around every corner. Sits at every office desk. Hides in the choir stands. Tap dances around at the gym. TEMPTATION is everywhere. But it is your decision. Are you going to flee and count your blessings? Or fall and see your life burn?
