Tweet responsibly

I am a reckless Tweeter.  Well...I was... Sometimes I would go on these Twitter rants about something I saw or read or witnessed that made my blood boil.  If you saw just one of my tweets out of context, you would have thought I was crazy.

There is something about social media that gives people a level of comfort to do and say certain things, that I am quite certain will soon turn into a mental illness.  The perception and tweets remain in cyberspace, and may harm you in the long run.

Take for instance the Twitter rants of people talking about The Hunger Games.  Apparently people got in an uproar over the casting of Black actors for some of the parts, even though the books detail the characters as having dark brown skin.  Read more about it at Jezebel.com.  Racism is not dead.  This generation is no more immune from harboring hatred in their hearts than the generations before them.

Then there were all of the party for Trayvon party promos being transported across the interwebs.  I mean really people? They reminded me of the MLK episode on Boondocks.  Look at this foolishness:

The promoters of this party claimed that it was a communication misunderstanding with the creator of the flyer, as it was supposed to include that proceeds would go to a scholarship fund with the NAACP.  That may very well have been the case, but sometimes the best intentions don't play out well without more thought.   I think they missed the point.  You don't do this...not with his image on your flyer.

Above is another one...this time from Orlando. I don't get it.  Do they not understand why this is wrong? I don't think they do.

We have to understand the consequences of using social media.  It could land you in a lot of hot water.  The party promoters felt the backlash from the promotion tactics they took.  So for all the good they thought they were doing, it caused more harm than anything.

The Tweeters who spewed their racist rants, received death threats, and some shut down their Twitter accounts.

Tweet responsibly people.

Let me add this issue with SPIKE LEE. Spike Lee became a lazy activist.  And an ignorant one to boot.  He retweeted what was alleged to be the address of Trayvon Martin's killer. Why would you even think about Tweeting the address of George Zimmerman?  Had he been slain, or his family members, what would that have solved?

Then to top it off, it wasn't even the murderous Zimmerman's home.  The address belonged to an older couple, who had to flee their home. SAD! Luckily they escaped with no harm.  Now Lee is going to pay their expenses.
