Have you ever seen those commercials that push the message to let your daughters play sports? They go down a list of stats about the benefit of athletics to girls:  less obesity, better grades, slimmer chances of teen pregnancy.

I am an advocate of girls playing sports. Pat Summitt is the premiere face of women's sports.  And she announced her intention to step down as head coach of one of the most illustrious women's teams in the country, the Tennessee Lady Vols.

Coach Summit was diagnosed with early stage dementia, and will no longer have an active role in the team, though will remain with the program as coach emeritus.
