Samantha Brick and the plight of the pretty

Pretty woman...walking down the street...pretty woman...the kind I'd like to meet..I can't believe you, you're not the truth...no one can look as good as you...

Mrs. Brick at 41 says her looks are a blessing and a curse.
I wonder if Samantha Brick hears that song playing in her head as she sashays around France.  Quite a few folks would say "Heck no!" One guy said about Mrs. Brick, "She's a right munter!"  Munter= unattractive person in British slang from what I gather.

Reality bites, and it took a chunk out of Mrs. Brick's
ego, after her article on being beautiful went viral.
But Mrs. Brick thinks she's beautiful, and so do a number of people who treat her as such. I applaud her self-confidence, it is not a bad thing!  She penned an article about being pretty and how it causes so many issues with friends, coworkers and other women.  According to Mrs. Brick, her "pretty" causes problems when it comes to jealous peers and perks when it comes to awestruck men.

At the core of her essay was the unique issue of being physically above average in the looks department.  Let's be honest, some people are more aesthetically "blessed" than others.  However, that "blessing" is relative to a number of things...including your location.  "Pretty" across the pond, may be less than average over here in the States, and vice versa.

Brick says she finally won the battle of the bulge, invested
in some hair dye, and is now among the pretty people.

In Mrs. Brick's defense, studies do show that the more attractive a person, as seen by others, the more benefits that person receives.  Being beautiful gives people an unfair advantage, so of course others who do not receive that advantage may feel "some kinda way."

If someone is handed the world with little effort, they may get the proverbial "big head" and forget to have some humility. So it is not always the case that people do not like "pretty" people because of jealousy.  Often, the lack of humility and overabundance of nasty A attitude, is what causes the vitriol.

Mrs. Brick got a big ol' chunk of humble pie this week, as people voiced how they really felt about her self-appointed prettiness and apparent lack of humility. She learned, what many people will at some point, what smells like roses in your own circle...smells like boo boo when you step out of it.

A little humility will take you a long way.  Either you will have it already, or humbleness will pay an unkind visit to you.
