YBBG on male bashing

YBBG Pet Peeve #287: Male Bashing

By now you get it.  I get along fairly well with menfolk.  Some might call it a gift I have...the ability to coincide peacefully and furtively with the "stronger" gender.  To me it's just a natural occurrence.  I typically get along with most people.  I do, however, have a special affinity for the fellas...we just click.

In general, no matter who the guy is, or his background, he and I can spark conversations that end better than they begin...or begin and never end.  Not to mention the fact that I have really really close guy friends who are like brothers to me.

That, brings me to my point. I HATE MALE BASHING!!!

Seriously, it makes my blood boil.  (I hate lumping anyone in an immovable category anyway...but this is especially sensitive.) If you ask one of my homegirls, she will tell you that I always take the guy's side in debates.  Now that isn't true...at least I don't think so.  I usually just try to open people up to alternative ways of seeing things.

I will not cosign on some "Men ain't ish" or "All mean are dogs" type talk.  It turns my stomach.  Seriously, if men were all that bad...why do we women still long to be with one?  It doesn't make sense.  I'm not some crazy masculinist (Is there such a thing? Like the opposite of feminist...lol), I just like to keep things fair and balanced.

What brought this on, was how I perceived some discussion that occurred at an event I facilitated last night. It just seemed like men were portrayed as barbaric predator, and women as hapless victims.  Ummm...NO!

If I heard one more "men are out to get you" comment, I was liable to forget my position and pop off at the mouth.  Ha!

When it is all said and done, men are human beings.  Men are no less worthy or more worthy of respect, love and understanding as women. You cannot lump them all in the same category or fear them, and expect to develop longstanding bonds with the guy of your choice.

Take time to get to know a guy, instead of spending all your time plotting and being suspicious, and you'll see they are pretty cool to have around.
