So you want to be an attorney without going to law school?

I cannot tell you how many people pull this type of stunt. The type that Rafiq Bey pulls in California. But I can tell you many people think they know the law better than attorneys. They will hear something from someone they know who has been through a "similar case", and believe wholeheartedly that they know better than the attorney. There are plenty of people who feel they can be an attorney without ever touching a toe in law school.

Honestly, it is annoying. Granted, law school does not teach you every law known to man. Laws are created all of the time. However, law school trains you to know how the law operates, how the court operates, and tests your mental will and aptitude to prepare you for the practice of law. I have run into a few of these people.

As Judge Pirro stated, they always think they are smarter than you. ALWAYS, no exceptions. What they may be is more "slick", or at least they think so. If they were smarter, there are hundreds of law schools they can enter and quite a few bar exams they can take to prove it. But they cannot and will not.

Attorneys are trained, tested, and monitored. Jo Jo on the street is not. When Jo Jo jacks up your case, you have no one to turn to. He is not licensed, and the majority of the time will get you in a hot mess.

People think they save money by finding ways to get around hiring an attorney. In some instances that is true, but when it fails (and it does fail) they then want an attorney to come clean it up. LOL

The court is open to pro se litigants. Many courts offer clinics for people who cannot afford to hire an attorney or whom want to act as his or her own attorney. And it should be that way.

But what should not happen is for some clown who makes up his own rules to scam people. That's why it is called the unauthorized practice of law.

A person talking a good game, does not an attorney make. Would you go to a dentist who has not learned how to become a dentist, does not have a license, and is just yanking teeth out of a person's mouth because he pulled a few when his kids were losing their baby teeth? LOL
