Basketball Wives Season 4 Reunion RECAP

I swore I would not watch this past season of Basketball Wives, but was drawn into a couple episodes. I had hope when Tami Roman had therapy sessions and deep dialogue with her mother. I did not watch the entire season, however. From what I gathered from Twitter, these women served up their lives on a Williams and Sonoma platter like a stinking pile of doggy poo, once again.

I caught the replay of Basketball Wives Season 4 Reunion.  Of course the ladies were immaculately dressed for the Basketball Wives Season 4 Reunion show, hosted by John Salley.

FOOLISHNESS

Part one of the reunion focused squarely on Jen and Evelyn... Their mess started out a couple of seasons ago with Evelyn lamenting about Jen giving a radio interview, and spilled over into some mess about a blog.

It devolved into a slap happy, table jumping, bottle tossing melee, with Evelyn's nasty attitude on full display. So the reunion focused on rehashing the dramatics.  For some reason both Evelyn and Jennifer were giving polygraph tests.  For what, I don't know.

Also front and center was Tami's irrational logic.  Somehow she managed to "apologize" to Kesha and attack her at the same time. The weird part is, it all made sense to her...and Shaunie for some reason.  How do you blame a person who is bullied for being bullied? (More of that to come in Part Two.)

Evelyn continued to scowl at Jen and claim that she has the list of Jen's sexual partners in her phone... Who does that? Why would you do that? And what business is it of yours? Did she lose count of her own, and decide to keep track of Jen's instead?

FAKERY

Shaunie attempted to play clean up woman with the show's image. She spoke of "growth" and the tiny drops of positive images infused in the show's overpowering messages of materialism, backbiting, anger, and bitterness.

If you noticed at the end of the season finale, Shaunie made a trip to her pastor to talk about how the show was impacting her, and how she may have to walk away from those "friendships". Maybe Shed Media, Shaunie O'Neal, and folks over at VH1 think we're all fools... but clearly that part was edited on after the backlash from the show reached major heights.

"Friendships"...something these women seem to know nothing about, from what is shown onscreen.  The only person who appears to be a good friend is Royce.  She stands by her friends no matter what. She speaks to them about what is going on, instead of talking about them behind their backs.  I posted a vlog a while ago about how phony Evelyn's friendship toward Jen was...even before interview-gate.  It was obvious...Evelyn was not supportive of Jen's marriage or what she was dealing with...she did more damage than building...as was seen on the show.
Basketball Wives pulled us into this fanciful world of glitz and glamour and purported high society living in season one.  But even then, the women seemed to think that saying something made it true, and that we should believe them instead of our lying eyes and ears.

At the reunion, Evelyn gave a mea culpa about jumping on tables and throwing wine bottles, claiming seeing her step-daughters laugh about it, did something to her.  She claimed that she recognized her faults and how much of a poor excuse for a grown woman she had been. How much do you want to bet, she laughed right along with them? Mind you she had just spoken of having Jen's "body count" list in her phone.

Evelyn has over a million twitter followers...her reckless mouth, nasty attitude, bitterness and all around mean girl persona draws people.  Instead of using her popularity to impart beauty, light, and love...she built her brand off of being a poor excuse for a woman.  But people like nasty... drawn to it, like a fly to a pile of horse poo.

These women can change...but the first part of changing is realizing there is more wrong than is visible to the naked eye.  It is difficult to make changes when you're right in the middle of your mess. I am a true believer that there is no such thing as a "bad" person, just people who choose to do bad or good. However, continuing to choose wrong over right will take you down a path of nastiness that industrial strength cleaner cannot remove. Sometimes you have to depart from people and situations to change for the better.
