Virginia Tech shooting victim identified

Yesterday was a harrowing day for students at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, aka Virginia Tech.  Over four years ago a gunman killed thirty two students on the campus.  Many chided the school for its poor response after the first shooting.

Shortly after noon on yesterday, a gunman killed officer Deriek Crouse who stopped a student in a routine traffic stop.  The gunman walked up on the officer and started shooting.  According to Reuters, the gunman, who has yet to be identified, was not a student at the school.

After killing the officer, the shooter allegedly changed clothes and then killed himself, leaving some type of writing near his discarded backpack.

The school reacted quite differently yesterday than four years ago.  Alerts of the shooting went out all over campus via text, email, and a siren.  Buildings were locked down and the transit system was suspended.
