I thought I heard this wrong... NFL football player arrested in alleged drug ring.  But nope.  It was true.  In the words of my pal E Creft: The devil will make a fool out of you if you let him.

From WSL-TV Chicago:

The investigation began last summer when Hurd, himself, was questioned by federal agents after a car registered in his name was pulled over and authorities found marijuana and $88,000 cash. Hurd told them the money was for a car detail payment. The very next day, Hurd signed a three year deal with the Bears for $5.1 million.

In mid August, feds say a Hurd associate negotiated a five kilo cocaine deal with a federal informant. In September, he allegedly wanted to meet the supplier, a meeting that was set last week for Wednesday night at Morton's Steakhouse in Rosemont. During that meeting, Hurd allegedly told the informant he wanted 5 to 10 kilos a week to supply his Chicago street operation, which, he allegedly said, was already up to about four kilograms of cocaine a week. In the parking lot, federal agents tackled the Bear and placed him under arrest.

If this is not a lesson in: When keepin' it real goes wrong... I don't know what is...  Some people can leave a situation, but the situation will never leave them...unless they want it to.  He is facing up to 40 years in prison!!! Aren't sports supposed to keep you OUT OF PRISON?! Dude...you are hustling backwards.

You're a millionaire.  Why are you in the drug game?  There are legitimate hustles you can get into without availing yourself of the judicial system.  Lord have mercy!!!! Come on!!! Wake up!

When you leave a certain situation, and get an opportunity to change your circumstances, you have to change your mindset as well.   I cannot say he did this...but you shouldn't even be closely related to something like this.  Even the appearance of impropriety can jack your life up!

You really have to leave certain things and people behind when you are afforded certain opportunities.  You are no Frank Lucas, Scarface, or the fed...ummm sorry... or any of those other folks who undertake criminal enterprises and get away with it... Well heck even they get caught! What are you thinking?!!!
