Day 10 DV AWARENESS: Have a voice

The good book says that life and death lies within the power of the tongue. Now, if that isn't power I don't know what is!

So yes, your voice has power! Healthy relationships help you strengthen your voice and won't silence you. If God granted you the gift of voice, then don't let some other human being take it from you.

There is nothing good about a relationship that renders you mute. When someone cares for you, he or she wants to hear exactly what you feel. He or she wants you to express your wants, hopes, and needs so that they can be fulfilled in some way.

When someone cares for you, he or she empowers you to have an opinion and speak truth to power. Your voice helps power the relationship.

No one who cares about you will try to shut you up or control your voice. As a matter of fact, healthy relationships help you grow your voice and direct it positively.

You can tell you're in a healthy relationship when you find yourself improving as a person. A good mate will encourage that improvement and grow with you.

A good mate will not overpower you, manipulate you, or cause you to shrink as a person. You will be uplifted, motivated and inspired.

A good mate will not be intimidated or made to feel small by your successes. He or she will find joy in your joy.

Remember the power that your voice wields and use it to speak life, joy and love in your relationship. Make sure that you seek a partner who does the same.
